Of beds and prams

We finally bought bebe's bed and car seat yesterday. Mum earlier helped us to buy the Peg Perego pram and Chee Meng was at the shop yesterday to learn how to operate it. Chee Meng's initial handling of the pram was erm, rather clumsy and funny and he also clipped his hands a few times while doing it. Poor daddy! He got better after a few tries but i think he still needs to practice a bit more.

We also bought the car seat and was advised by the salesgirl that Chee Meng would have to bring the car seat to fetch us from the hospital coz it is a requirement that all babies need a car seat. I so look forward to that day! Bebe will look so cute in the car seat!

There's still a lot of stuff that we need to settle at home.. we need to do up the nursery, fix up the blinds and clear up the study room. Both rooms are err, slightly messy now with clothes and books and we will need some new furniture for the room and the study as well. I managed to get a confinement lady, all thanks to Chee Meng's aunt, and Mum was saying that it would be better for me to stay in Sengkang during my confinement so that everyone can rest properly. I think it's a good idea too.. so that bebe can get used to the environment.

I'm now into my 5th month (21 weeks already). Time really flies! And it will be very very soon when we get to see and cuddle bebe. We are so looking forward to it!

No crabs... and limit soya intake...

Over at CM's uncle's place last Saturday, out of the blue, CM's uncle just told me very matter-of-factly not to eat crabs. He said that there was a relative whose son's little hands are 'all over the place' and he is not deterred by any form of physical punishment. He added that when the older generation asked the mum what she ate during pregnancy, the truth came to light - crabs. Crabs makes for itchy and active hands and kids and that's why crabs should be out of the menu during pregnancy:) So cute.

I shared the no-crab diet with my mum and she told me that she had loads of crabs when she was carrying my brothers. But they all turned out to be fairly easy to manage. Another relative also said that eating crabs make kids strong. Well, that's another theory.

Another piece of news i heard over the weekend was on soy products during pregnancy. My aunt told me not to overload on soya bean milk during pregnancy. She said that many of her friends who consumed loads of soya bean milk during pregnancy had a slight problem when they tried to wean their kiddos off breastmilk. The kid refused to drink normal cow's milk coz they are used to the taste of soy in milk. Hence, all these kiddos became high-class drinkers of soy milk which is more expensive than the usual cow's milk. Interesting huh?

Visit to the Gynae:)

Had an appointment with Dr Peter Chew this morning to check the progress of our bebe, get the triple-test report and most importantly, see if we can find out if bebe is a little prince or a little princess.

Dr Chew told me that the triple-test result is ok though my haemoglobin level is normal but on the low side. He increased the dosage of the iron tablets which made me worried.. i had such a bad bout of constipation several weeks ago which i suspected was due to the tablets:( But since he ordered an increase in dosage, well, i just have to follow and drink more water! I hope my intestines will cooperate with me this time round. He also advised me to eat more red meat like beef (Dr Chew said no MacDonalds) , chicken without skin (no KFC) , fish (which i dislike). I have also gained about 1+kg which is a relief to me but Dr Chew asked that i continue to watch my diet. Dr Chew said that I should cut out carbohydrates.. which i will try to do coz it's the thing that keeps me filled up!

Today's scan was also interesting coz we were asking Dr Chew if bebe is a boy or a girl. Dr Chew suspected that it is a boy but asked me to go for a scan 3 weeks later to confirm his suspicion. But either boy or girl is ok coz the kiddo will be so loved by everyone. That i can guarantee. And bebe now already has a personal merchandiser - Grandma.. bebe's wardrobe is already filling up and it's all good quality stuff!

bebe is a lucky baby:)

Inertia..

I was full of inspiration and motivation when i created this blog yesterday and wanted to incorporate the scans of the little one since we started 'tracking' his/her development in Week 5. Now our bebe is already an 18-week baby! How time flies!

The truth is that i really don't feel like being near a computer after i get off work, hence i did not get round to scanning the scan print-outs of the little one, which has filled up two booklets given by the doctor. The extensive print-outs were because the pregnancy was a little unstable in the beginning (as with all pregnancies) and i had to visit the doctor weekly to monitor the progress of the little one. But luckily, all went well and now we are into the second trimester! But there was another kind of pressure in the first trimester - i was not gaining weight and hubby was worried. In fact, i lost 5kgs in the first trimester but my doctor said that it was normal and there was nothing to be worried about.

Things are getting better in the second trimester... at least i'm finishing my plate of food at meal times! And i hope i'm gaining some weight in the course of it! People have been asking me if i have any cravings.. well, i have been craving for beef and had one whole week of beef-dishes at lunchtime last week! Hopefully the meat will give me sufficient intake of iron which means that i don't need to take so many iron pills which can make my internal system even more sluggish!

Yep, the little one is on the way..

Haven't been going around telling friends of the good news, though quite a number knew about it in recent weeks. And just in case i have not told any of you personally, yes, we are pregnant with our first child and he/she is due in Sep 08! Understandably, this piece of good news has been infecting our households with joy and happiness since Jan 08, more so for my parents who are expecting their first grandchild.

This has been a long journey for both of us though we are equally guilty that we have not been really conscientious in this throughout. We would be usually excited and motivated and then wane off due to work pressures or any other distractions. Hence, we were pleasantly surprised and elated when the little one decided that it was the right time to join us. Since that day, there had been so much excitement and hype in and around us, ranging from looking and buying baby stuff and going for our regular check-ups with my gynae. All of us are sooo looking forward to the arrival of the little one! Lots of love awaits him/her!!
